Supplies for Tagging
Here is a list of items that you'll need to get you started preparing your items for a sale…
Approx 1 1/2 inches or larger work best. Tiny safety pins do not hold, come undone and cause damage to your items and other consignors items.
3x5 white cards. Lined or unlined, does not matter. Purchase twice as many as you think you'll use. You'll need them and you don't want to make a midnight trip to the store to find them.
Clear Packing Tape
Purchase a good quality roll of clear packing tape. 3M or Scotch makes a clear packing tape that works fantastic for consignment sales. Avoid brown packing tape as it leaves a brown reside on items, as does duct tape.
Masking tape is great for attaching cards to books, as it won't take the paper off a book cover. It is also great for putting on the soles of shoes to put your consignor number and price on, should the tag come off the shoes as it frequently does.
If you plan on putting No Discount marks on any of your items, please use a nice red marker. You want your mark to be bold and definitive and a Sharpie works great. Even better, if they still make them (and I haven't checked in a while) is a red Dotteriffic pen. You can find them in the scrapbooking section of your local craft store and they make a nice perfectly round, no mistakin' this is not going half price, dot.
Black or Blue Pen
You'll need a pen to write your information on your tags.
Why wire hangers? All the sales make us use wire hangers. Yes, it's true, it's because they are durable. Plastic ones break. When they break, your items end up on the floor. When your items end up on the floor, they don't get seen, which means they don't sell. You don't get a big fat check, because no one saw your quality merchandise. You can get them free at almost any drycleaner, however go during off peak season when no one is asking for them and you'll have a better chance of getting some.
Quart, Gallon and 2 Gallon bags are all extremely helpful. They don't have to be namebrand, but the Freezer bags are a more suitable product for the rigors of a seasonal sale. Ziplock bags are perfect for all those toys and baby stuff that you are ready to sell.
My new best friend. If you can't figure out how to prepare it, Plastic wrap will get it done. I love Plastic Wrap!
Great for attaching tags to those hard to tag items. Just punch a hole in the tag and attach the ribbon through it to hang the tag from that hard to secure item.
